The University of Auckland Science Centre redevelopment delivers state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities for the Faculty of Science. Potter Interior Systems recently supplied and installed a range of specialist magnetic greyboards, pinboards plus Autex Composition and Autex Quietspace. The initial tender requirements were very general in relation to the specification of floor to ceiling greyboards and framed pinboards beside framed greyboards in the offices. A number of proposals were made by Potter Interior Systems to Fletcher Building & Interiors and architects, Architectus, regarding the makeup of these boards to ensure successful solutions.
In the offices, Potter Interior Systems manufactured a pinboard and greyboard combination board as one unit in various sizes ranging from 2800mm wide to 5000mm wide. To achieve this, porcelain was laminated to 12mm softboard to match the Autex vertiface fabric on 12mm softboard with tee sections and unique framing with hidden clip system.
In the corridors, there was a requirement for floor to ceiling greyboards approximately 6000mm wide. To create a minimalist look, grey porcelain was laminated to 3mm MDF and the exterior was framed with new 3mm Edgeline framing that has a slight lip over the face of the board. Tee joiners were installed between the butt joined boards.
In the university breakout areas in the upper floors, porcelain on 16mm MDF was framed with Ullrich 3404 with a tee section, and was installed between the boards, allowing them to be flush with the MDF panels above.
In the Lab rooms, Potter Interior Systems cabinet slider systems were utilised at each end of the benches, with a double track and two sliding doors.
Throughout the building a selection of colours in Autex Composition and 25mm Autex Quietspace were installed for optimum learning acoustics.
